In the lower Pierre Belle district of Saint Veran Queyras, France is an original 1840 Zarbula sundial featuring exotic birds.

As you enter Saint Veran walking up the lower road, the first Zarbula sundial is the famous Gobe Mouche, Toucan sundial. This 1840 Zarbula original in the lower Pierre Belle district features two exotic birds, a gobe mouche and a toucan. The dial is dated 1840 and signed GFZ. The gnomon is missing and the motto effaced but records show it was, “Je mesure le temps, image mobile de l’immobile éternité (I measure the time, a moving image of unchanging eternity). This is an afternoon sundial declining a bit to the west. SAF 0515709.
