Magazine was opened on my visit. I learned alot of oral history, from members of the Jefferson Parish Historical Society, who were present. The Magazine tunnels once stretched from this structure north almost a mile to the Metairie Ridge. The inside was lit, but very small and taking photos was difficult (they did not come out good). It was a built to defend New Orleans from a Union attack from the North. The union attacked from south, so this location saw no action. The Union then manned it for a Confederate counter attack, which never came.
Plenty of information found online. Great history found at the State of Louisiana Register website, located
