Zarbula Sundial 1870 St Blaise, Briançon, France - Sundials on Waymarking.com

A pair of corner dials by Zarbula in 1870, on Maison Ferrus in the hamlet of St Blaise south of Briançon. SAF 0502344. The dial is at Place de Fontaine, just up from the old highway.

The barely discernable mottos are "Tempori Servio" and "Sol me vos umbra regit"(I served the time. The sun guides me and for you, it is the shadow). This motto is appropriate as these 1870 dials are among Zarbula's last. The style elements are the classical features for the mature artist: Frame, drapes, sun, flower pots, chicken. The equatorial lines are evident and construction lines now show through the eroded plaster. The gnomons have been bent down at incorrect angles. The dials were restored by the Club du Vieux Manoir.
