Named for the town of Jay in which much of the mountain except the peak area is located.

The northernmost major mountain of the Green Mountains, it is crossed by the Long Trail, a 272-mile hiking trail running the length of Vermont. Jay Peak is home to the northernmost ski area in Vermont, receiveing the largest average annual snowfall (355 inches or 9 metres) of any ski area in Eastern North America.

The Jay Peak ski resort is on the northeast side of Jay Peak.
