Greensboro was incorporated as a town in December 1823 as Greensborough but the name has since been simplified to Greensboro. The town is named in honor of American Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene. The city is the county seat for Hale County. The current city hall located adjacent to the county courthouse was built in 1976.
