The station building Margareten Gürtel was built 1901 by Otto Wagner as one of the Stadtbahn line WD (Wiental-Donaukanal) stations. The line was modernized in the late 1970s and converted to the subway line U4. The restored Wagner's station Margareten Gürtel was opened for the traffic in October 1980 with new platforms and a modern exit on the east side.
