This chimney is not one of the traditional old chimneys at burned out home sites. From the look of the brick and the surrounding ruins I would estimate that this home is a 1970's era build.
I can guess that the scenario might have gone as follows:
Fred and Mable lived here. One evening they went to town to buy groceries and while they were gone a tremendous thunderstorm erupted. Rain and wind abounded. Lightening crashed and thunder shook the ground.
A bolt of lightening crashed into the roof of Fred and Mabel's house. A fire immediately engulfed the house burning it to the ground.
Fred and Mable returned home with their groceries to find their home in a state of smoldering ruins.
