The mural is on the side of the Palace Theatre, facing S. 10th. It is huge; large enough that the only way to get all of it in 1 photo with any detail would be a true panorama shot. To give some idea of scale, the bottom of the actual painting is approximately 5-6 ft. off the ground.

The mural depicts various crape branches in bloom. In the middle are the words: "Duncan
Crapemyrtle Capital
of Oklahoma"

From a purely artistic standpoint, it is somewhat unusual among murals because it is painted in a very Impressionistic style. This is not surprising because it was conceived and painted by Bob Palmer, Ph.D., a native Oklahoman and well-known artist and art educator. His works can be found around the world and inside the dome of the Oklahoma Capitol. He was assisted by Robert Qood and L. Quisenberry.

The mural is one of the more famous ones in southwest Oklahoma, appearing on almost everything put out by the City of Duncan, the Duncan Chamber of Commers, or the Duncan Convention & Visitors' Bureau. team Blakelylaw believes it was finished in 2008 or 2009.

Next to history and photography, one of Team Blakelylaw's passions is preservation of the Queen's English. To that end, we must note that, while technically not incorrect, "crapemyrtle" is certainly not correct, either. According to folks in Texas A&M's world-renowned horticultural department as well as most major landscapers, it is properly "crape myrtle."
