Stevens Cave is one of many caves that make up the Horse Lava Tube System which has a total length of over 7 miles. The source of the flow that the cave is located in is about 4 miles to the south and the flow extends northward to south edge of Redmond where it entered (and displaced) the channel of the Deschutes River. This flow occurred about 80,000 years ago.
