War Memorial Ayot St Lawrence, Herts - World War I Memorials and Monuments on Waymarking.com

A war memorial outside the ruins of the Old St Lawrence Church. The memorial is enclosed by a yew hedge and gate.

The memorial consists of a rough hewn stone plinth surmounted by a wheel cross of sacrifice. There is a sword in relief on the front face of the cross. The inscription is on smoothed stone at the front of the plinth and reads:-

THIS CROSS IS ERECTED IN MEMORY OF
THOSE MEN OF AYOT ST LAWRENCE
WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES
IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918
