The two sphinxes represent power (left) and wisdom (right). With the roots of Freemasonry going back to the medieval guilds of stone carvers, the House of the Temple is built of stone carvings and columns. Each sphinx weighs 17 tons and was carved out of a solid piece of stone quarried at Bedford, Indiana.
At the time of this posting, this building's public tours have become more popular due to the setting of this building and Freemasonry in Dan Brown's new book, The Lost Symbol.
