New World Property of Thomas Taylor (1628-1682)
This peaceful ancient woodland is part of 400 acres purchased by Thomas Taylor in 1682 just prior to emigration from Wales with his family. The tract was included in William Penn's newly established colony received under Charles II of England bordered by Chester and Ridley Creeks. It is traversed by the Great Minquas Indian Path to the Susquehanna River and nearby Great Edgmont Road now known as Old Middletown road.
The other notable settlers on this tract have included the families of Woodward, Fairlamb, Day, Trimble, Yarnall, Cope, Swan and Rowley. The earliest Taylors moved successively to nearby Birmingham, Thornbury, Westtown, Newlin, Kennett and Pennsbury townships. More distant migrations to Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio soon followed modern descendants reside in all fifty states.
