These Pictographs are within the White House Ruins area of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. They are accessible either by means of a guided trip down the canyon, or by hiking the White House Ruins trail off the South Rim Road (which doesn't require a Navajo guide). The pictographs are located between the two levels of the ruins, and are in two different locations.
Due to the area being fenced off, you can not approach too closely, so it is best to bring along binoculars and a telephoto lens for the best views.
Please help preserve these wonderful examples of an early art form. Ancient Rock Art is very Fragile, so take only pictures and memories! Do Not Touch since the tiny amount of oils in your skin can cause the paints and rock surfaces to deteriorate. While erosion and weathering take a constant toll on many of these sites, it's people touching the sandstone and 'outlining in chalk' which causes far more damage.
The Antiquities Act of 1906 and the Archaeological Resources Protection Act provides serious penalties for vandals, so if you witness someone vandalizing a site, please report it. It is grandchildren's grandchildren who will thank you when they too are able to see the same Rock Art you did.
