"The last eroded form in the Garden that bears a name is DARK ANGEL, a
towering and ominous creation that might have been done by Gothic
gargoyle-carvers. The monolith looks out southward, brooding over a kind of solidified Pandemonium, whereof Harry Reed says, "You can almost smell the brimstone."
--- Utah A Guide to the State 1941
Found at the end of a long and difficult trail, it is place you have to want to go to, but once there is worth it, not only for the views of Dark Angel, but also the Panorama view that looks out over the park. Aptly named, it is a dark and gloomy sentinel that supplies a fitting end to the Devils Garden area of Arches NP.
Be aware that the viewing of Dark Angel requires more than merely walking along a well developed trail, it truly is a place that requires you to overcome your fears in order to arrive at the base of the Dark Angel.
Yet like all things that are fearful, once you are there, your fear is gone and you stand in awe of what is before you. All in all it is a very worthwhile object to stand before, if you are up to what it takes to overcome the obstacles to get to it.
