This quarry produces mostly clay used to produce brick, cement additives, and fine clay for fillers.
This quarry is a good site to pick up pyrite off the ground.
The terrain is rather flat and featureless. Go north on State Route 178, and you start heading toward the Illinois River, where it drops in elevation and has more rock outcrops.
While heading north to the river, you pass the entrance to Starved Rock State Park.
You must obtain permission in advance in order to enter the quarry.
