Mt Vernon UMC was built in 1906 in the Maces Springs area of Hiltons, VA on land donated by Rufus Bays. The white clapboard country church was constructed from trees dragged out of the local Clinch Mountain.
Several members of The Carter Family, an early country music group, are buried here. A remix of Johnny Cash's 1996 "Unchained" spiritual was recorded inside the church.
