The monument has a uniformed Confederate soldier rendering a salute with his left hand. He is holding a rifle barrel in his right hand with its butt resting at his feet. He is carrying a backback. The statue is on a tall multi-tiered base with relief of flags on its front and back.
The monument was erected by the Bolivar Troop Chapter No. 1067, United Daughters of the Confederacy. The Board was granted $2,500 and an addtional $500 was raised by the chapter. The state was cared in Carrara, Italy. The statue as accidently dropped into New York harbor when it was being unloaded from the ship and sunk to the bottom of the bay. It was recovered and continued it trip to Cleveland, Mississippi in time for the dedication ceremony on May 14, 1908.
The monument is located on grounds of the Bolivar County Courthouse in the historic area of Cleveland, Mississippi.
