The monument was dedicated to honor veteran of all wars, however the original monument was in honor of all Kane County veterans of the Civil War. Surrounding the monument are 22 plaques listing the names of all Kane County residents who participated in the Civil War. The statue is a standing soldier holding a flag with both hands. He is flanked by a kneeling rifleman on his left side and a kneeling drummer on his right side. Two eagles with their wings spread flank the sides of the base.Behind the main monument is a ball and chain from the Andersonville Prisoner of War camp.
