The Sumter County Courthouse was built in 1902. The courthouse has design elements showing both Beaux Arts and Classical Revival styles. The building was designed by architects Ausfeld & Chapman and built by C.H. Dabbs & Co. The courthouse replaceds an earlier frame structure courthouse which had been built in 1839 and burned in 1901.
