Long Description:
"Memorial to the Six Million" is a Holocaust Memorial. On a field of gravel, some two-dozen cement slabs bear the names of concentration camps, ghettos, and massacre sites where victims of the Holocaust perished. Standing watch over them are six stark wooden sculptures, completed in 1966 by noted California artist Bernard Zakheim (1896 - 1985). The eternal flame at the center of the memorial stands for the rebirth of Israel from the ashes of the World War II era. At night it could be seen from two miles away, when the rest of the hillside is bathed in darkness.

Also, there are six heroic figures set among cement slabs bearing the names of the most infamous of the Nazi death camps. Each of the six figures represents Jews who perished in the Nazi onslaught:

Woman Warrior - Dedicated to the women who gave up their female identity to fight as soldiers when there were no men to fight for them.

For Our and Your Liberty - Dedicated to the notion of freedome and the willingness to sacrifice anything and everything to preserve it.

Martyrdom - Commerating the girls from a Jewish school who chose death rather than life in the Nazi houses of prostitution.

I Don't Want to get Involved - The Jew who is unwilling to act to save himself or others, yet who cannot escape destruction.

Genocide - A child bound in chains within the frame of death.

Jew with Torah - Seeking peace and keeping his own order, but a victim still.

This is Bernard Baruch Zakeim's descriptions of his characters in the display. Just standing there looking at each piece and the names of the death camps in the cement - I'm thankful there are memorials to the Six Million.
