No. 6106 belongs to the 6100 class and it was built by Great Western Railway Swindon in 1931. It has a wheel arrangement of 2-6-2T (Side Tank) and was first brought into the Great Western Society collection in 1966 having been withdrawn from service in 1965. It was used in preservation in 1966.
This locomotive class is the largest of the 'Prairies' and they worked suburban services from Paddington to the Thames Valley. A GWS member brought No. 6106 out of service and it spent a brief spell at the Society's first headquarters in Taplow before becoming the first to move to Didcot in November 1967. It now resides in the Engine Shed & Display at Didcot.
