Left from the Stone House on State 234 to a shale road, 0.3 m.; L. here 0.4 m. to HENRY HILL, on which there are numerous markers that indicate battle maneuvers. The possession of Henry Hill gave victory to the Confederate army in the First Battle of Manassas and largely determined the fate of a retreating Federal army August 30, 1862, in the Second Battle of Manassas.
The fighting of August 30, 1862, is sometimes designated the Second Battle of Manassas, but the designation is more generally applied to the fighting from August 28 to 30, 1862.
Visitors can clearly get a good idea of the strategic location the hill played during the battle as it provides great views of the surrounding lands. There are still several markers present throughout the hilltop describing what went on and also what soldiers died here. In addition there are a couple hiking trails with interpretive signs along them that traverses the hillside. There is an admission fee of $3 to visit Manassas National Battlefield Park, paid at the Henry Hill Visitor's Center.
