Set within the village of Overton is the ancient church of St.Helens.
Overton is 3 miles South of Morecambe and lies close to the river Lune where it flows into the Irish Sea.
St Helen's was founded around 1140,with alterations and additions over the centuries,The doorway is early Anglo Norman and an original feature of the church,The West Wall is even older and is around 4 feet thick.
The Font is dated to around 1665.
The church does not have a tower but has a bellcote which houses a single bell and was added in 1878.
The chancel was appropriated by Lancaster Priory in 1246.
The first resident curate was appointed in 1671.
A separate parish was formed in 1765.
