The imposing, in the Corsican bright sun shinning, Christ's statue called Christ Roi (Christ the King) is work of notable Corsican sculptor Noël Bonardi. This statue marks the border of the French Departments Haut-Corse and Corse-du-Sud at the highest road mountain-pass Col de Verghio (1477 m).
The statue was sculpted from Corsican pink granite monolith in 1984, its height is 9.5 m and its mass 25 tons. On tablet at the bottom of the sculpture's pedestal you can read following words: "Tenitevi Caru - Comme je vous ai aimés, aimez-vous aussi les uns les autres", which translates into English: "Love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."
Jesus of Nazareth (probably 4 BC – 30 AD) — also calles Jesus Christ is the central figure of Christianity, and within most Christian denominations he is venerated as the Son of God and as God's incarnation. Christians also view him as the Messiah foretold in the Old Testament - however, Judaism rejects these claims. Islam considers Jesus a prophet and also the Messiah while several other religions revere him in some way.
Christ the King is a title of Jesus based on several passages of Scripture and, in general, used by all Christians. Many denominations celebrate, in honour of Christ under this title, the Feast of Christ the King on the last Sunday of the liturgical year, before a new year begins with the First Sunday of Advent. The title "Christ the King" is also frequently used as a name for churches, schools, seminaries and hospitals.
