SALEM EVANGELICAL
UNITED BRETHREN CHURCH
FOUNDED IN 1835
FIRST BUILDING ERECTED ON THIS SITE - 1839
REPLACED IN 1871
DESTORYED BY FIRE - JANUARY 9, 1938
REBUILT AND DEDICATED IN 1938

Also known as the German Church the church resembles the Methodist Episcopal church in government and doctrine. The first church services were held in a one room school house near here and then later in the Ballroom of the Dillenback Hotel.

The bell that once adorned the churches steeple was recovered from the ashes. It is now on display in the back of the parking lot. This church is located in the heart of Amish country so please be careful while driving on this road. A few days ago we passed 3 Amish horse and buggies, 2 of which was transporting milk from their dairy to the Palatine Cheese Factory. Happy Waymarking, Swizzle & Family
