An M-1 rifle stuck in the ground by its bayonet with the fallen soldier’s helmet on top. This was commonly used as a grave marker in WWII.

Set on Estes Plaza in the shadow of the Overlord Arch, sculptor Matt Kirby’s Final Tribute echoes the losses memorialized along the Necrology Wall that encircles Gray Plaza. The sculpture takes the form of a temporary battlefield grave.
