Dr Hossam El-Shazly was an Egyptian doctor who had been working in the renal medicine department at Cairns Base Hospital since August 2007.
The 38-year-old was killed early Saturday morning (17th January 2009) when his bike and a truck collided on the Captain Cook Highway, north of Cairns.
Dr El-Shazly completed his medical degree at the University of Cairo in 1994 before working in the US, where he served on the American Board of Internal Medicine. He then worked in New Zealand and at the University Hospital of Leicester in the United Kingdom before moving to Cairns in 2007.
