One of 3 old abandoned mines located on Pike Hill, The Eureka mine operated between the years 1840-1860 with a brief revival in the early 1900s and WWI. The mine is normally partially flooded, but slopes upwards after the entrance and is accessible during the dryer times of the year. This mine it is deemed unsafe for obvious reasons and although there are no buildings left standing, there are many old foundations and colourful tailings piles lower down from the mine entrance. DO NOT venture above the mine entrance, as there are several vertical ventilation shafts not easily visible and which may be covered with vegetation.
If you feel a cold draft, you're dangerously close to a shaft.

To get there...

Off of hwy 25, take Pike Hill rd. When you came to the T, with a large pond in front turn right .DO NOT go left as Claflin rd is not maintained. At the T, according to google maps the road may read as Pike Hill rd W, or Richardson rd, I don't remember what the road sign said, but it goes by one of these two names. Just after Morrel rd you will see a small area on your right that is used as an unmarked school bus turn-around and the start of an ATV/snowmobile trail. You can park there if you pull in enough.
You are now on the old road leading up to the mine. Two ATV/snowmobile trails veer off to the left in two spots. The first leads to the old tailings piles and the 2nd leads to more piles as well as the foundations to the stamp mill and support buildings. Just keep to the right and stay on the washed out road and this will lead up to the mine entrance, about 1/4 mile from your car. Along the washed out road, keep looking to your left. When you see a rock outcropping, you are at the mine entrance.
Print these directions and you should find it with no problems.
