"In 1961, the late Dr. H.B. Hune, then 90 years old, reminisced with a friend about his life as a boy on his father's farm on the Little Muskingum River in the 1870s. He well remembered the surveyors coming to select the site for the bridge over the river on the Hune Farm. The year was 1879 and the builder, Rolla Merydith of Marietta, came to board at the Hune Farm while the bridge was under construction. He brought his young son with him to play with the little Hune boy. Dr. Hune remembered that the stone for the abutments was quarried right there on the farm and the yellow poplar used to build the sturdy Long trusses also came from the family farm." -The Covered Bridges of Ohio, by Miriam Wood.
