This mark is set within feet of the southbound lanes of the heavily traveled state highway 99 which is the main north/south route that passes through the San Joaquin Valley (prime farming country) and connects northern California with southern California. Tagus (Tagus Ranch, to the locals) is now a mere shadow of its former self. It once boasted of a general store, gasoline station, post office, cotton gin, and a railway station...all of which no longer exist. The azimuth mark presented here, lies between the highway and the rail road tracks that remain. The mark rests on a concrete culvert within feet of the shoulder of the highway. The mark is relative to the Tagus triangulation station.
