A fountain, was erected in memory of Taranaki soldiers killed in the Boer War that ran from 1899-1902. Today the fountain spouts tussock grasses instead of water.

On top of Marsland Hill a concrete fountain stands in memory of the Taranaki Men who fell in the South African War 1899-1902, erected by the people of the Taranaki district.
