The cemetery can only be accessed from the Red Trail in the Horine Section of the Jefferson Memorial Forest. Before starting on this trail, you will need a permit, which can be acquired between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm at the visitor's center, located at N 38° 05.102 W 085° 46.031. The trailhead is located at N 38° 04.603 W 085° 45.607.
Don't be afraid to visit this cemetery, even if you are NOT an avid hiker. Although the trail guide lists the Red Trail as 4.5 miles and "strenuous", you can choose to hike to the cemetery and return the same way. This will reduce the length of the walk to approximately 2.5 miles of relatively flat and wide trail. To do this, leave on the Red Trail from the trailhead, then turn left where the Red Trail branches (this is at Junction Marker 2 at N 38° 04.470 W 085° 45.728). Follow the Red Trail along the old road until Junction Marker 14 at N 38° 03.888 W 085° 45.669. When you get to this point, instead of turning right to continue on the Red Trail, continue on the old road about 100 yards to the cemetery. You can return to the trailhead by retracing your steps. If you are an avid hiker, then by all means enjoy the entire Red Trail.
