Ohura owes much of its charm to the fact it is in one of the last great wilderness areas of the North Island. The Ohura Museum preserves the history of a forgotten world in a picturesque part of New Zealand.
The museum is located in the small country town of Ohura, in one of the many old buildings. With its collection of old implements and farm junk, it provides an opportunity to get up close and personal with the history of the area.
This excellent little museum gives an insight into Ohura's pioneering history and days as a thriving coal-mining town. If the museum is closed, directions for obtaining the key are on the door.
Located 10 kms off the Forgotten Highway, this quaint little museum certainly won't be forgotten, it is well worth a visit.
