The town of Kap Choeng (note: Thai/Eng spelling is a guessing game. Kap can be spelt Kab, etc.) is a small town spread out along the road leading to the Cambodian border (~15kms away). Not so much a centralised town, but a greater concentration of shops and facilities along a few kilometres of road.

One of these facilities is a small public hospital. I was told that there are two wards, one for men the other for women, each with 25 beds. There is also an emergency facility. One interesting feature of this hospital was its involvement with herbal medicine. The hospital prescribes herbs along with 'western medicine'. I am not sure of the details of the extent and nature of this practice due to language difficulties.

I was told later that this area, two – three decades ago, was depopulated due to the conflict in neighbouring Cambodia, where 'collateral damage' spilled across the border, and Thai soldiers were the areas principal inhabitants. The town has grown from this rough beginning.
