[FR] La gare de Genève dite de Cornavin est une gare internationale et est la gare principale de Genève. Point de départ de la ligne Genève - Lausanne qui a fêté ses 150 ans en 2008, elle est également le point de départ de la ligne vers Lancy Pont-Rouge, de la ligne vers Genève-Aéroport et de la ligne vers La Plaine et la France via Bellegarde-sur-Valserine.
Suite à la décision de la Société des Nations, prise le 28 avril 1919, de s'installer à Genève, la ville se lance dans de grands travaux. Dans ce contexte, la gare Cornavin est complètement reconstruite sur les plans de l'architecte Julien Flegenheimer avec des sculptures au fronton de Jacques Probst. Le nouveau hall central est inauguré le 25 juin 1929 avant que l'ensemble ne soit achevé en 1931.
[EN] After the decision taken April 28, 1919 by the League of Nations,
to locate in Geneva, the city undertook a number of construction projects. As a result, the Cornavin train station was completely reconstructed according to the design of the architect Julien Flegenheimer with sculptures on the facade by Jacques Probst. The new central hall was inaugurated on June 25, 1929 before the rest of the building was finished in 1931.
