Tullamore, the capital of County Offaly, is the third largest town in the Midlands and is a vibrant and enjoyable place to visit. The county of Offaly is located in the centre of Ireland, bordering the counties Galway, Roscommon, Tipperary, Laois, Westmeath and Kildare. The river Shannon flows to the south west of the town. Tullamore has good shopping, restaurants and pubs, and is an ideal base for exploring the Midlands.
The town’s name derives from Tulach Mhór meaning ‘big hill’, in the heart of Ireland’s finest grain growing region, surrounded by mountains, bogs and rich agricultural land in the centre of Ireland, providing both the fine barley and pure water essential to the creation of good whiskey.
