There are separate plaques detailing the different inscriptions below:
A side plaque reads: 'To commemorate Royal Navy and Fleet Air Arm Personnel who served on this airfield 1943-1945.'
A general plaque reads: 'This memorial commemorates all who operated from Tarrant Rushton Airfield 1943-1980. Unveiled 6th June 1982.'
In reference to WWII another plaque describes the specific squadron with relevance to the gliders who flew from here in the run up to D-Day: 'To honour all who served with 298 and 644 squadrons R.A.F. 'C' Squadron Glider Pilot Regiment.'
The airfield was an important part of the SOE in the war on the build up to D-Day. There are some good photos here of the wartime days and thereafter (

The memorial is on a sharp bend in the road called Windy Corner and lies just to the west near the entrance to the farm buildings and footpaths. The marker is a stone with brass plaques on three of the four sides. It is located in an attractive paved area with steps leading up to it from the layby parking area.
