Blount County Courthouse, 220 2nd Ave E, Oneonta, AL 35121. Blount County was created February 7, 1818 from lands ceded by the Creek Indian Nation. Blount County was named for Tennessee governor W G Blount who sent militia under Andrew Jackson to punish the Creeks for the Ft Mims massacre. Some of Jackson's men were the first settlers of Blount County. The county seat was moved here in 1889. The courthouse bell used from 1890 to 1954 is displayed on the lawn.
