In the house that is located near this historic marker, Pearl Sydenstricker was born on June 26, 1892. She is better known as award winning writer Pearl S. Buck, who won both the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1932 for her famous novel “The Good Earth.” In 1938, Pearl Buck was also awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, becoming the first American woman ever to receive both the Pulitzer and Nobel awards. Today, her birthplace is preserved as a museum to one of America’s great writers.

BIRTHPLACE OF PEARL S. BUCK
"Pearl Sydenstricker Buck, author of 85 books, one of the “The Good Earth,” for which she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Literature (1932), was born here at the Stulting Place, June 26, 1892. In 1938, she achieved further distinction when she became the first American woman to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature, based on her six books on China. She died March 6, 1973 and was buried in Bucks County, Pennsylvania."
