Huntersville is in Pocahontas County, West Virginia and is located on Route 39 about 6-miles east of the county seat of Marlinton. Huntersville received its name because it was a rendezvous for trappers and hunters who came to trade pelts for supplies in the early 1800’s. The town served as the county seat until 1891. This historic marker stands on Route 39 near the center of the small town. The text of the marker reads:
HUNTERSVILLE
"Established in 1821. Early trading post here brought hunters and trappers and gave name to the town. In 1822, first county court met here at the home of John Bradshaw. Gen. Lee was encamped here in 1861."
