This is the sixth of 12 benchmarks on Griffin Rd., all collinear, on a due east course directly to Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood Int'l Airport. Most of them are FL D.O.T., but a few are from local municipalities & utility services, all in 6.47 miles.

Be careful with this one! You have to walk over the Florida Turnpike which requires a lot of running. This local benchmark is located 50 feet before a slight curve in the highway. It is close to the inside part of the sidewalk and grass, a mere 18 inches from the edge and 7 feet from the curb and highway. Just before the benchmark, on the grass side in a truncated, concrete pyramid about 3 feet high. It looks like it could be the base for a streetlight but there is nothing on it. it is painted bright white. The benchmark is 7 feet past it. There is a group of these exact benchmarks bearing the "C series" designation all up and down this road, heading to the airport, traveling still eastbound. This benchmark is exactly 4.40 miles from the airport terminal, as the crow flies and is extremely close to Florida D.O.T 818 86 03 C15.
What do you do when you have a 3 hour, 7 mile walk to the airport in the middle of the night from 11:30 PM to 2:30 AM? Why, look for and collect benchmarks of course, and what a collection I found! I hit the mother load. It seemed every 1/2 mile or so I struck paydirt. ALL of the benchmarks in this "C" series are along the sidewalk, on the east bound (south side) side of this road which leads to the airport.
