St. George's Episcopal Church is on the corner of Princess Anne St. and George St. at 905 Princess Anne St. The present building was built in 1849. It was the third church to be constructed on this site.
The clock was set in place on the central tower and steeple in 1851 by the City of Fredericksburg. It was damaged by a fire on July 19, 1854, but restored. The City of Fredericksburg retains responsibility for its maintenance.
The tower and steeple survived the ravages of the Battle of Fredericksburg during the Civil War and can be seen in many photographs of that era.
