This painting on a
traffic signal cabinet is similar
Sailboats, an acrylic on canvas by
Vanessa Stafford. It depicts a Santa Cruz neighborhood, with the roller coasters of the
Beach Boardwalk nearby and sailboats out on the Pacific Ocean.
I especially like the way she integrated elements of the utility box into the artwork. Note how the cable going into the concrete it painted as the trunk of a palm tree and the palm leaves of the tree are right above on the box. The ventilation louvers of the box are made to be roof-like shingles on houses, a small door on the side became the face of building with windows and the keyhole of a lock is the high point of a tower's spire.
The utility box is on the SE corner at the intersection of Ocean Street and Soquel Avenue. More painted utility boxes by Vanessa Stafford can also be seen at this waymarking.com link.
