On a very busy intersection where a cross road intersects Nantasket Avenue right where the multi-sided building that holds the old Paragon Carousel is located, is a brass benchmark set in the concrete sidewalk.
The datasheet for the marker at the MassHighway site states the following:
IN THE SOUTH PART OF TOWN, ON THE SOUTHWEST SIDE OF NANTASKET AVENUE, 49 FT SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTERLINE, ON THE NORTHEAST EDGE OF TRAFFIC CIRCLE, 79.4 FT SOUTHWEST OF FIRE BOX, 77 FT SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF HYDRANT, 32.7 FT NORTHEAST OF POLE IN CENTER OF TRAFFIC CIRCLE, 3.5 FT SOUTHWEST OF TRAFFIC CIRCLE CURB, 9.9 FT SOUTHWEST OF EDGE OF SIDEWALK, 55.8 FT NORTHWEST OF MANHOLE.
Along the inside edge of the marker are the words, "Mass. Dept. of Public Works," then "Traverse Station." In the center, the word, "station," then, below it, "85K" is hand embossed. Then there are two lines on either side of a triangle with a center hole. Though there are the word "Elevation," "Feet," and "Above Mean Sea Level," there is no value showing.
I could not find any information on when this disk was mounted.
The mark has several very superficial scratches on its surface.
