MOUNT MITCHELL (NC) - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

This custom disk replaces several summit marks which were destroyed by construction of a new observation tower.

To reach, take the Blue Ridge Parkway (closed in winter) to Mile Post 355.3. Exit onto NC-128 and proceed 4.5 miles to the parking lot for the observation tower. Follow a paved foot path 280 yards to the summit, and the access ramp for the viewing platform.

The disk is mounted in a drill hole in the floor of the viewing area, inside an outline of the State of North Carolina. It is placed within the outline in its position relative to the state line.
