Ridgefield claims to be the
birthplace of the U-Haul moving and storage company in 1945. The land where the actual buildings were, has became part of the
Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.
Just down the road in Portland, Oregon, a sign in front of a Portland U-Haul business, Portland claims to be the "Retail" Birthplace of U-Haul.
The "official" history of U-Haul can be found at their website. The company headquarters are now in Phoenix, Arizona.
