When I am called to duty, God wherever flames will rage
Give me strength to save some life whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child before it's too late,
Or save an older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout.
And quickly and effectively to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and give the best in me,

The Sierra Madre Fire Department proudly protects the 11,000+ people living and working in an area of 3.2 square miles located approximately 20 miles northeast of the City of Los Angeles. The Department operates out of one fire station located in the downtown area consisting primarily of residential, light industrial and wildland/urban interface areas.
On June 1, 2007, after more than 85 years as an all-volunteer agency (the only all-volunteer fire department in Los Angeles County), the Sierra Madre Fire Department began the City’s first Paramedic EMS Service, which operates in conjunction with Fire Department personnel.
The Department has three Battalion Chiefs, one Fire Marshal, one Captain Paramedic Coordinator, six Captains, six Engineers, and 30 firefighters, consisting of five crews on a rotating platoon basis. Department personnel are augmented with approximately 25 Shift/Auxiliary firefighters.
The Department currently has an ISO rating of 4 with four Type 1 Engines; one 3,000 gallon Water Tender; one Chief’s vehicle; one Command Vehicle; an Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) trailer; Utility truck; and two Rescue Ambulances. The Department participates in the California State-wide Mutual Aid Program by providing resources for the State of California Office of Emergency Services with the OES Engine.
During 2008, the Department responded to over 300 fire and non-medical related calls and over 500 medical rescue calls through the Verdugo Fire Communications Center. The Department responds to all first alarm brush responses in the San Gabriel Mountains above the City of Sierra Madre with the Cities of Arcadia, Monrovia, Pasadena, the County of Los Angeles, and the United States Forest Service.
The Fire Chief oversees the administrative functions, daily operations, and response capabilities of the Sierra Madre Fire Department. The Battalion Chiefs oversee fire prevention, training, personnel, and EMS training and quality assurance, as well as rotating the on duty battalion chief responsibilities. Fire Captains oversee crew training, station maintenance and equipment, and first in district pre-plans.
