This is a World War I era cannon, dated 1905, located in the corner of Memorial Park, in Sierra Madre, California. It was mounted as a memorial to World War veterans in 2005, with $75,000 raised through the memorial bricks for the platform.

This cannon was one of two surplus cannons given to the city of Pasadena, California, by the U.S. Government, and subsequently donated to the neighboring community of Sierra Madre, where it was mounted as the signature piece for Memorial Park at the corner of W. Sierra Madre Blvd. and S. Hermosa. The base contains engraved memorial bricks of donors who helped in the restoration and mounting of this artillery piece.





At the moment, the exact identity of this piece seems to be unknown. It bears the date "1905" and the motto "pro gloria et patria" and a crown. This motto, a Latin phrase meaning "for glory and country" (or fatherland has been used by several countries including Prussia, Britain, and the United States at various times.
