Big Basin Park is the largest continuous stand of ancient coast redwoods south of San Francisco. Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) trees have reached heights of 379 feet (115.5m) and are the tallest living organisms on Earth.

To the right of the Ranger Station / Visitor Center is a tree ring growth display of a tree whose age was determined to be 1392 years old. Calculations indicate the tree fell in 1936. Many trees in Big Basin are between 1,000 and 2,000 years old. The tree slice has some rings marked with a world event of that time.
