The FIRST battle on Ohio soil of the War of 1812 was fought on this site on September 29, 1812. 60 settlers were attacked by about 130 Indians. 20 citizen soldiers held off the Indians while the others escaped to Cedar Point by boat. When reinforcements arrived a few days later, the Indians dispersed. Neither side won the battle.

The 8 American casualties are buried at the site, which is now a park.
